The second trailer for the highly-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie has dropped - and it may just be the greatest Marvel trailer ever released.

Check it out below:

The movie sees Ryan Reynolds once again return as the "Merc with a Mouth", marking the fourth time the 47-year-old actor has played Deadpool in a feature film.

"Fourth?" I hear you cry. "But this is the only third Deadpool movie."

Well, that's because Reynolds actually played a version of Wade Wilson in the 2009 X-Men spin-off movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And fans can all agree that the version of Deadpool in that movie was a sack of s***.

(Apologies, my personal feelings coming out there.)

Regardless, Reynolds never lost hope in Deady-Pool, and in 2016, his version of the character returned to the big screen in Deadpool - a movie that received high praise from fans and critics alike. As did the 2018 sequel, Deadpool 2.

Now, Deadpool is back, and he's returned with one of Marvel's most beloved big-screen heroes: Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

With the chemistry between the two actors being intoxicating off-screen, the trailer was pretty much everything fans had been hoping for from the two stars - as it's full of humor, violence, and F-bombs.

But one other detail has left Marvel fans aghast - the sighting of what appears to be the corpse of one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Avengers.

In one brief moment from the trailer, viewers were startled by what seemed like a door opening aboard a mysterious vessel. At first glance, it appeared ordinary, but upon closer inspection, fans were met with a chilling revelation: the object in motion was none other than giant Ant-Man's iconic helmet.

What made the scene particularly unnerving was the unsettling sight within the helmet: the unmistakable outline of teeth and the bottom of a skull.

This revelation has sparked widespread shock among fans, especially considering that the last time audiences saw Ant-Man was in the 2023 movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania... and he was alive at the end of that movie.

Over on X, fans had a lot to say about the revelation. "I mean if none of you are going to talk about, I’m going to. Someone made a base out of Antman," one person tweeted.

Another added: "The actual Antman skull under there is an incredible/disturbing detail #DeadpoolAndWolverine."

"It's so over for Ant-Man because they're using his body as an enemy base," wrote a third.

But look closer at the scene - as it also appears to show that Azazel (from X-Men: First Class) and Lady Deathstrike (From X2) are back.

Is Deadpool & Wolverine part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Up until recently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men universe had been kept very separate. This is mainly due to 20th Century Fox having the rights to the X-Men characters, before the movie studio was purchased by Disney in 2019.

Of course, Disney also owns Marvel Studios and is the mighty force behind the MCU.

Recently, we've seen other heroes from other studios appear in the MCU - most notably, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Sony Spider-Mans (Spider-Men?) in 2022's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Additionally, up until 2022's Ms. Marvel, the word "mutant" or "mutation" was never used in the MCU. This came at the very end of the series when Bruno mentioned Kamala's powers were the result of her "mutation".

At the time of Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Bob Iger announced that Deadpool would be part of the MCU. And seeing as he's dragging Wolverine and Logan's long history with the X-Men with him, it appears that the X-Men will now officially be part of the MCU.

Of course, it'll be interesting to see how all of this adds up - seeing as mutants have been absolutely despite by humanity in the X-Men movie series, but the MCU heroes have been adored and admired.

Additionally, Deadpool & Wolverine will mark the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When is Deadpool & Wolverine set?

Okay, this is going to get complicated again.

Let's just start by assuming that the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past are still in place and that the events of the first three X-Men movies didn't happen.

At the very end of 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, Wolverine awakens in a new timeline to find all of his friends are still alive and safe from the Sentinels in 2023.

But in 2017, Hugh Jackman returned as Wolverine for what many believed to be the last time in the critically acclaimed Logan.

Sadly, that movie - which was set in 2029 - ended with Logan being killed.

Therefore, we can assume that Deadpool & Wolverine takes place at some point in between these movies - potentially around the time that many of the X-Men were killed by Charles Xavier's seizure. (As mentioned in Logan.)

But with multiverses and time travel prevalent in the MCU these days, we'll have to wait and see if Logan can be put on another path that won't end with him being impaled on a log with a weeping X-23 by his side.
