When someone turns 50-years-old, it's a big milestone. Living for half a century gives a person the opportunity to assess their life and the things that are important to them. It can also lead them to embrace aging gracefully and try new things; even celebrities aren't immune to this behavior.

Indeed, this week Academy-Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey has stunned his fans, as on Tuesday, November 5, he celebrated his 50th birthday by finally joining Instagram and uploading his inaugural post.

Despite the fact that he only has the one video to his name, he already boasts over half a million followers. In his first video ever, Matthew addresses the camera directly and tells his potential followers what kind of content they can expect from his page.

The actor states: "When people come to my page, I want them to see me. Look, this is my first venture into sharing myself and my views with the world and I’m a little bit nervous about it because quite frankly, I know I want to have a monologue…"

He continued: "I’m not quite sure I want to have the dialogue. But I know I have to have the dialogue, too […] So I’m looking forward to it, I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to sharing who I am with you, to seeing if who I am translates, if what I want to share translates…"

He added: "If it tickles your funny bone, if it makes you think a second, if it makes your heart swell up a little bit, if it makes you take a quiet moment and go for a walk… Let’s have some fun with it though."

McConaughey isn't the first actor to finally come to Instagram late. Last month, Jennifer Aniston shocked her fans by creating an account and posting a tribute to the 25th anniversary of Friends.
