Now, for those of you who might not be aware, the Antiques Roadshow is a British television program in which people all around the country bring in antique items for specialists to value. The show has also had formats in countries like the US, Canada, and Germany.

However, in this particular episode from the UK show, fans were shocked to hear expert Ronnie Archer-Morgan refuse to put a price on an item with a "disturbing" past.

A woman from Cardiff brought out a ring-shaped item to show the television expert who, after careful inspection, said: "I want to make it absolutely clear that myself and we in The Antiques Roadshow wholly and unequivocally disapprove of the trade in ivory."

The beige bangle was engraved with calligraphy that read 'Prince Jemmy of Grandy' and had links to the slave trade from the 17th and 18th centuries.

It also had the words "honest fellow" engraved in it, to which Morgan responded: "I’d like to meet him and tell him how honest I think he is."

While branding the bracelet as "amazing," he went on to discuss one of the "most difficult things I've ever had to talk about," delving into the historical facts surrounding the item.

"I just don’t want to value it. I do not want to put a price on something that signifies such an awful business," he told the woman. "But the value is in the lessons that this can tell people. The value is in researching this and what we can find out.

"And I just love you for bringing it in and thank you so much for making me so sad," he added.

Once the clip was posted to YouTube, social media users praised the host for his response.

"The way he caresses it with his finger really speaks to how much he both fears the item, and feels for the hands that may have passed through it," wrote one user, while another added: "Wow, this was amazing and what an eloquent description of the hideous but important provenance of this item. 10/10."

A third also commented: "Every word out of his mouth was a historical lesson for me. [Thank you]."

Over on Reddit, there was also a similar response with this social media user writing: "Fascinating, disgusting, sad, maddening, surreal. Thank you for sharing this."

Another also chimed in stating: "Well spoken, respectful and good job explaining everything."

Others also suggested that this piece probably belongs in a museum rather than this show as more people could benefit from the historical significance of it.
