Netflix recently included the true-crime drama Cleveland Abduction on its streaming service, and it has caused quite a stir with viewers online as they describe it as "disturbing".
Cleveland Abduction - which was filmed in 2015 - is based on the true story of Ariel Castro's kidnapping of three young women in Ohio between 2002 and 2004.
The film follows the story of Michelle Knight, played by Taryn Manning, who was the first of the three victims to be imprisoned by Castro, played by Raymond Cruz, at his home in Cleveland, Ohio. Michelle disappeared on August 23, 2002, after leaving a cousin's house.
The terrifying drama's addition to the streaming giant's platform has sparked a renewed interest in the case.
Needless to say, people on Twitter had a lot to say about the Netflix film.
One Twitter user wrote: "Cleveland Abduction is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever watched. There’s some sick freaks in this world."
Another chimed in and said: "Anyone else seen Cleveland Abduction on Netflix?? It’s messed up! and a true story."
A third shared: "Okay but I stayed up till 4AM watching Cleveland Abduction and I’m traumatized"
"Feel so sorry for the 3 girls but especially for Michelle Knight," one more shared.
The synopsis from Netflix reads: "Abducted and imprisoned, Michelle Knight finds the will to survive amid the most horrific and heartbreaking of circumstances in this true-crime drama."
At the time of her abduction, Michelle was a 21-year-old single mother who had been scheduled to appear in court regarding the custody of her child. She was held captive for 11 years before she made her dramatic escape.
Amanda Berry - Castro's second victim - was just about to turn 17 when she was abducted in April 2003. She went on to give birth to Castro's child while imprisoned.
Gina Dejesus was Castro's last victim and she was kidnapped the following April at the age of 14.
In 2013, Castro was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 1,000 years in prison without parole. Just one month after his conviction, he died by suicide in his prison cell.
