Netflix viewers have been left speechless after watching an intense film that has hit the streaming platform - and let's just say, you're going to need some therapy after this one.

Now, Netflix has been on a roll recently with its wide variety of new and classic movies to pick from, but this low-key discovery has got us wondering why we have never stumbled across this masterpiece before.

Directed by Albert Pintó, Nowhere tells the story of a young pregnant woman called Mia (played by Anna Castillo) who escapes from a dystopian version of Spain by hiding in a maritime container aboard a cargo ship.

After a violent storm, Mia gives birth to her child while lost at sea, where she must fight to survive.

The movie hit the streaming platform back in September of last year but has remained a topic of interest for avid movie lovers.

"This movie on Netflix is intense af lord I’ve had like 10 heart attacks watching this damn movie," wrote one person in Rotten Tomatoes, while another added: "[This] movie on Netflix gave me terrible anxiety from beginning to end..."

Over on YouTube, many social media users also commended the drama, with one user stating: "This movie deserves awards for its incredible direction, story, and acting. Every single scene is so thought-provoking."

"I learned a lot from this show that no matter what challenges you face in life, you have to fight even if the world is cruel to us, we should not give up," another added.

A third also commended Castillo's performance writing: "This actress deserves an Emmy! What a moving and profound performance! She's incredible."

As positive as the fan reaction was though, it seems as though some critics expected more.

Brian Tallerico gave Nowhere a measly 2.5 stars, writing that Netflix's thriller "takes a bit too long to find itself, and struggles with tone, but a committed performance by Anna Castillo keeps it from drifting off to the horizon."

He continued: "There are some disappointing choices in the film's directing, but Castillo's performance should make a lot of those easy to overlook for anyone who stumbles upon this one in their streaming algorithm."

Teo Bugbee of the New York Times also agreed, writing: "...It’s hard to care about Mía’s efforts to survive when coincidence drives the plot, and the production looks and feels cheap.

"There’s just one set, a few props and an admirably committed performance from a waterlogged Castillo, who keeps this flimsy vessel afloat," he added.

Regardless of the critic review, it seems as though it was a major hit amongst fans so if you're in the mood to get your heart racing, I'd highly recommend giving it a watch.
