Netflix viewers have been left hiding behind their hands after watching a terrifying scene in a new show on the streaming platform.

The Accident follows a couple from Santa Cruz, Mexico - Daniela (played by Ana Claudia Talancón) and Emiliano (played by Sebastián Martínez) - who throw a birthday party for their son, Rodrigo.

In order to celebrate, the couple decides to invite some other children and their parents to a party and everyone seems to be having fun - particularly on the bounce house (or 'bouncy castle' depending on where you're from).

However, things take a turn for the worst as the wind suddenly starts to blow and the bounce house that the family hired for the event ends up being pulled from the ground, blowing away with three children inside.

As the community deals with the tragic outcome of the event, the blame game begins, with many wondering who is to blame for the accident.

The 10-part series is written by Leonardo Padrón and brought to life on the screen by both Klych López and Gracia Querejeta. Alongside Talancón and Martínez, the Spanish-speaking show also stars the likes of Alberto Guerra, Eréndira Ibarra, Shaní Lozano and Silverio Palacios.

Fans who have already given the series a watch have been left clearly haunted by some of the scenes - in particular, the scene showing the castle blowing away leaving some people on X absolutely terrified.

"I'm watching The accident on Netflix and... new fear unlocked... children and bouncing castles for me is a no no," wrote one user, while another added: "The accident on Netflix is a definitely must watch 1000/10."

A third also described it as "the saddest s*** I’ve watched in my life," adding: "It’s good but sad."

On the other hand, others were not too impressed with the storytelling techniques in the show, with some describing it as a bit of a reach.

One X user wrote: "Just laughed so hard I cried because I just started the 2nd most popular show on Netflix called 'the accident' and they spend 20 mins building up to the tragic event which is that at a kids birthday party it got really windy and a bounce house full of kids flew away."

Others clearly also had mixed feelings about it all like this user who wrote: "I was talked into watching this Mexican series 'The Accident' on Netflix 10 episodes that p***ed me off but I couldn’t stop until I knew how it all ends. Wild."

Another agreed stating: "LORD I forgot the Mexican TV shows go from zero to one millions quickly. 'The Accident' on Netflix is WILD."

I guess you'll have to make up your own mind on the plot.

But despite the mixed reviews, the dangers featured in the show are sadly very real, as tragedies have occurred as a result of bounce houses being blown away in heavy winds.

The Accident is now available to watch on Netflix.
