The hugely popular animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots has been renewed for a second season, Netflix has announced.

The announcement was made via the streaming giant's 'See What's Next' Twitter page. And in the same tweet, Netflix confirmed that Jennifer Yuh Nelson - who directed two of the Kung Fu Panda movies and The Darkest Minds - has joined the series as supervising director for Volume 2 and will oversee all episodes.

Check out the trailer for the first season of Love, Death & Robots:

The first season features a collection of 18 animated short stories (ranging from six to 17 minutes) which span a number of genres including science fiction, comedy and horror.

Each of the self-contained episodes was worked on a by a different team of writers, directors and animation studios and so have their own individual style.

The first season was executive produced by David Fincher, Jennifer Miller, Tim Miller, and Josh Donen.

When it was added to the streaming platform in March, many viewers started drawing comparisons between this show and Black Mirror - the fifth season of which was released last week.

Love, Death & Robots is different from every other series on Netflix, including Black Mirror, in that it does not have one specific episode order. Indeed, each account will have randomly been assigned one of four set episode orders.

"We've never had a show like Love, Death & Robots before so we're trying something completely new: presenting four different episode orders," Netflix clarified on Twitter.

Netflix has not shared any additional information on the show's upcoming season, such as how many episodes we can expect.

A release date for season 2 of Love, Death & Robots has yet to be announced.
