A new A24 movie called Talk To Me has become the highest-rated horror film on Rotten Tomatoes this year.

The psychological horror film - directed by brothers Danny and Michael Philippou - has sent shockwaves through the horror community, generating an immense buzz among fans.

Talk To Me - which stars Miranda Otto, Zoe Terraces, and Sophie Wilde - tells the story of a group of friends in an Australian suburb who learn how to summon spirits by using an embalmed hand.

However, a grieving teenager named Mia (played by Wilde) takes things too far and accidentally unleashes supernatural forces into the world.

At the time of writing, the A24 movie holds an impressive Rotten Tomatoes critics' score of 94% after 114 reviews. As the flick will have a wide theatrical release today (July 28), the scores will most likely change, however, it is certainly a promising start as so far, it's the highest-rated movie released this year.

Tim Robey from The Daily Telegraph gave the film an impressive four-star review, noting: "The film grabs your attention with verve, but also has a vision: it’s not mortal danger it finds freaky, but what’s waiting on the other side."

Clarisse Loughrey from The Independent also gave the film the same rating and stated that it pays homage to classic 1980s horror.

"Its practical effects are effective, rendering it dead in bloated, blotchy, dripping flesh. And when the spirits reveal more demonic, subversive desires, the tricks they play on the living are delivered with a taunt and a giggle," she added.

In addition to this, critic Andrew J. Salazar said the movie also has a "killer ending that will leave you speechless, it’s easy to see Talk to Me growing a healthy cult following," while John Nugent from Empire Magazine stated that there's "emotional backbone to the film, a sense of helpless grief bubbling throughout before erupting at the end, like a bloodletting".

Furthermore, the movie also has an audience score that stands at a strong 78% from 50 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Some fans were lucky enough to watch the film early and shared their new-struck reactions on Twitter.

One person that goes by the handle @NickCummins21 excitedly penned: "Got to attend an early screening for the upcoming A24 film #TalkToMe tonight in Detroit! I can confidently say the hype is real and it’s the scariest film so far in 2023."

"The Philippou brothers bring a new take to possessions and I can’t wait to dissect it more on 2nd viewing!" he added.

Another early viewer who goes by the handle @zacidk shared their spine-chilling experience, writing: "Just watched the new @A24 horror film #TalkToMe and holy s***. That was the scariest film I’ve seen since 2018’s Hereditary."

"Not only that, but it was f***ing amazing. I think it may have jumped straight to my #1 film of the year," Zac noted.

The A24 horror film marks the feature directorial debut for twin brothers Danny and Michael - who also have a YouTube channel called RackaRacka which allowed them to have their first introduction to filmmaking.

Speaking to Looper, Danny said: "YouTube was a practice ground for us as filmmakers, and we used every video that we did to sharpen our skills and learn something new and try a stunt for the first time, or try a certain [visual] effect, or try a certain makeup effect."

"Each of those videos was building up to finally taking that leap and doing the feature film," he continued, and Michael added: "Now, with story and stuff, we're excited to take a leap and have a go at the more narrative-driven stuff."
