Last month Disney released the teaser for Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker, which contained many exciting moments: Rey jumping over Kylo Ren's speeding TIE fighter, Lando Calrissian flying the Millennium Falcon, and The Emperor cackling at something, possibly the Star Wars Christmas Special. (Yeah, in Episode 6: Return of the Jedi, The Emperor fell down a reactor shaft, but who knows? Maybe he landed on an air mattress.)

The Episode 9 trailer promises an end to the Skywalker saga, but if you think Disney's done making Star Wars movies, there's a bridge in Cloud City I'd like to sell you. The Mouse House released their updated Christmas schedule Tuesday, which confirms a brand new Star Wars trilogy, starting Christmas 2022. We don't know who's directing, but reportedly Last Jedi filmmaker Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are both working on separate Star Wars trilogies.

Here's the hotly anticipated trailer for Episode 9:

After the disappointing box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Disney decided to stop releasing Star Wars movies every year. (Insert disappointed Wookie noise.) Instead, new Star Wars movies will come out every other Christmas, in 2022, 2024 and 2026.

But will movies will come out in between, you ask? Four Avatar sequels! The Avatar franchise might not have a huge presence in today's pop culture - think about it, can you name one character off the top of your head? - but the first film made $2.78 billion, and is the highest grossing movie of all time. (Avengers: Endgame is number two, and rapidly catching up.)

The Avatar-Star Wars sandwiches begin in 2021, but don't worry, you won't have to talk to your family in Christmas 2020. Disney has two high profile releases, the live-action 101 Dalmatians reboot Cruelle, starring Emma Stone, and Steven Spielberg's West Side Story remake.

Disney's Christmas Schedule:

2019: Star Wars Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker

2020: Cruella and West Side Story

2021: Avatar 2

2022: Star Wars movie

2023: Avatar 3

2024: Star Wars movie

2025: Avatar 4

2026: Star Wars movie

2027: Avatar 5

I say, give Topher Grace a Star Wars movie, because he edited all ten movies into one trailer, and it's amazing.
