A petition calling for Whoopi Goldberg to be fired from The View has racked up more than 40,000 signatures.
Earlier this year, Goldberg faced huge backlash after comments she made about the Holocaust angered viewers up and down the country. Now, thousands have signed a Change.org petition urging execs to remove her from the daytime show.
In an episode that aired on January 31, Goldberg argued that the Holocaust was "not about race".
She had been discussing a Tennessee school board's controversial decision to ban Maus, a graphic novel about the Holocaust, which saw the murders of six million Jews during the Nazi regime.
Check out what she had to say below:"These are two white groups of people," she said. "The minute you turn it into race it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, Jews, it’s each other."
While the 66-year-old actress apologized for her remarks, ABC decided to suspend her for two weeks, with ABC News president Kim Godwin saying in a message to network staff at the time: "Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments.
"While Whoopi has apologized, I've asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family, and communities."
Many believed her short-lived suspension wasn't severe enough a punishment.
And a petition, which was set up after her controversial remarks on the show, is demanding that the she be fired "from the daytime TV show for her repulsive verbiage and actions."
The description states: "Whoopi has made numerous remarks about race that have ruffled feathers. But her most recent comment attacking victims of the holocaust and the entire Jewish community are disgusting."
It continues: "Apologies are not enough when it comes to things like this, This can and will not be forgotten. We as Americans demand that she be fired from the daytime tv show The View for her repulsive verbiage and actions."
