Margot Robbie claims she needed a bit of Dutch courage to help her shoot a particularly steamy scene in The Wolf of Wall Street.

During a recent recording for BAFTA: A Life In Pictures, the 32-year-old actress admitted she was filled with nerves before shooting a scene where she strips off naked save for a pair of stockings and heels.

“I’m not going to lie, I had a couple of shots of tequila before that scene because I was nervous – very, very nervous,” Robbie said.

“Honestly, I know it sounds silly now, knowing how big the movie became, at the time I thought, ‘No one is going to notice me in this film.’ It kind of doesn’t matter what I do in this film because everyone is going to be focused on Leo and everything.

“And I was just kind of like, ‘I’ll slip under the radar’.”

Robbie was only 22 when she landed her breakout role as Naomi Lapaglia, wife of DiCaprio’s stock trader Jordan Belfort in the blockbuster 2013 film.

In a 2014 interview with The Telegraph, she claimed director Martin Scorcese offered to ‘dilute’ her nude scenes if they made her uncomfortable, but she insisted that getting nude was necessary for the role.

"I think it's disgusting when someone would have got naked in real life, in the film they conveniently leave their bra on, or hold up the bed sheet,” Robbie said.

"The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world.

"So when Marty was trying to help me out, and said in the scene where she seduces Jordan perhaps I could have a robe on, I said she wouldn't. She has to be naked."

The film ended up propelling her into the stratosphere, but in another recent interview in which she reflects on the early days of her career, Robbie says she was unprepared for the consequences of fame she experienced after starring in Wolf of Wall Street.

“Something was happening in those early stages and it was all pretty awful, and I remember saying to my mom, ‘I don’t think I want to do this,’” she told Vanity Fair.

“And she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like, ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to.’ That’s when I realized the only way was forward.”

But having now spent nearly a decade at the top, Robbie says she’s become more comfortable with navigating the perils of fame.

“I know how to go through airports, and now I know who’s trying to f*** me over in what ways,” she added.
