More than 1.5 million people have now signed a petition calling for Amber Heard to be "removed" from her role in Aquaman 2.

The petition claims that since the pair's divorce, Heard has "crusaded to ruin Depp in Hollywood":

"Since Heard's divorce from Johnny Depp, she has systematically crusaded to ruin Depp in Hollywood," a portion of the petition's description reads.

At the end of a lengthy list of claims made against the actress, the petition concludes that "Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project."

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp has been replaced in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise by Mads Mikkelsen. Depp was asked to resign from the role of Gellert Grindelwald after he lost a legal case against the Sun newspaper.

The case centered around whether or not the Sun's description of Depp as a "wife-beater" was libelous.

Depp claimed that his reputation was tarnished by the continued existence of the article on the Sun's website and the fact that it was published alongside that of convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein.

The actor subsequently took to Instagram to reveal that he would be appealing the decision and that his "career will not be defined" by it.

Thanking his supporters, he said: "Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone who gifted me their support and loyalty.

"Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.

"Finally, I wish to say this.

"The surreal judgement of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal.

"My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false.

"My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time."

For her own part, Amber Heard has previously spoken out on petitions to have her removed from Aquaman - dubbing them "paid campaigns" that have no basis in reality.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Heard said: "Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don't dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality.

"Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I'm excited to get started next year."
