Ricky Gervais has revealed that the first episode of season three of his hugely popular comedy series, After Life, is complete.
After Life centers around the exploits of Tony (Gervais), as he tried and fails to come to terms with the loss of his wife Lisa (Keri Godliman). Tony decides to take out his fury and grief at her death on the world, saying and doing whatever he pleases. The show is written and directed by Gervais.
After Life has become a considerable success for Gervais and Netflix, so much so, in fact, that the actor and comedian is writing a third season - rarefied air in the cannon of Gervais sitcom formula.
Watch Ricky Gervais roast Leonardo DiCaprio at the Golden Globe Awards:The phrase 'two seasons and a special' has become practically synonymous with the co-creator of The Office and Extras, yet After Life will return for a third season.
"Because so many of you watched #AfterLife2 so quickly and made it Number 1 again, the nice people at @Netflix have suggested that I get off my fat arse and do another season. This is all your fault." Gervais wrote on Twitter.
And now, the 59-year-old comedian has taken to Twitter once more, to share the news with fans of the show that a first draft of episode one, season three of After Life is written. He posted an image of himself holding the script along with the simple caption, "cheers".
In a separate reply to a fan, Gervais confirmed that it was just episode one that was finished thus far, but he did reveal that the others are coming along nicely.
"Just ep 1. The rest are getting there though." He confirmed.
And this morning, he tantalizingly revealed that he had written a new joke for the third season. He wrote, "Just wrote a joke for Brian Gittins to tell in #AfterLife3. It’s so good I’m counting it as a day’s work."
