The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been axed by Netflix.

The television show, which stars Mad Men star, Kiernan Shipka, first hit the streaming platform back in 2018. Based on the Archie Comics book of the same name, the show has proved to be very popular, with an overall 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, days after the Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene, was cancelled by CW, it was announced last night (8th July) that Netflix won't be renewing The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina past "Part Four".

Part one of the hit television show was originally developed to exist in the same universe to Riverdale, which is also based on an Archie Comics book. Now, it is unclear whether the character will join the show, which is due for a fifth season in 2021.

Per TV Line, the finale of the show is set to premiere later, and promises a "spooky, sexy and supernatural series finale."

In a statement regarding the cancellation, via TV Line, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said:

"Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honour from day one. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show.

I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see part four."

The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, in association with Berlanti Productions and Archie Comics. Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti serve as executive producers, as well as Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger.
