Did you follow the exploits of 13-year-old girl Elizabeth 'Lizzie' McGuire, the teen who'd dream of becoming popular at school?

If so, I've got some truly excellent news for you.

In case your memory needs refreshing, the accident-prone Lizzie stumbles her way through adolescence, accompanied by her animated alter-ego, who is there to express her true feelings.

If this is all bringing back overwhelming feelings of nostalgia and the blissful joys of youth, and you've concurrently been living 'neath a rock for the past few months, then boy do I have some exciting news for you.

That's right, Lizzie McGuire, the show that launched the career of Hilary Duff among others, is getting a reboot. The all-too-short original series ran between 2001-2004, and now, 15 years on, the original cast members of the beloved show are returning to do it all over again on Disney+.

It's now been confirmed that Hilary Duff will be joined by the rest of the McGuires: Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas.

In both the series and the seminal movie, The Lizzie McGuire movie, Todd and Carradine played Duff's parents, while Jake Thomas played her brilliantly evil younger brother, Matt.

Right now, it's unclear exactly what part the family will play in Lizzie's renaissance, not least as the titular character will no longer be residing with the McGuires in the suburbs. Rather, the series picks up with Lizzie about to turn 30 years old, and going through some sort of crisis in New York City.

A press release on the reboot reads;

“With a little help from her friends, her loving family and her 13-year-old alter-ego in animated form, Lizzie navigates the ups and downs of adulthood”.

The onscreen family reunited 15 years on from the culmination of the original Lizzie series this week for a table read of the pilot episode of the reboot, as you can see in the Instagram post above. Disney wrote;

"A picture perfect fam! Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas will reprise their roles as Jo, Sam, and Matt McGuire with Hilary Duff in #LizzieMcGuire, an all-new @DisneyPlus series coming soon. #DisneyPlus"

Per Refinery 29, there's no word yet on whether Lizzie's best friends Gordo and Miranda will reprise their roles in the new series. If she's currently going through a big city crisis, she's going to need her nearest and dearest around her, right!?
