'The Matrix' is returning to theaters to celebrate its 20th anniversary

One of the most celebrated movies of the late 90s is, of course, The Matrix.

Released in 1999, the movie is set in a dystopian future where humanity is trapped inside a stimulated reality system, The Matrix. It follows Neo (Keanu Reeves) as he goes on a mission to discover exactly what The Matrix is.

Now, to celebrate the movie's 20th anniversary, it is being released in theatres this September. While this is technically a little late as it was originally released on March 31st, 1999, this is exciting news for younger fans who never got a chance to see it back then.

The re-release is also well-timed coincide with Keanu Reeves' astronomical popularity, which has seen the actor even have his own film festival in his honor - the aptly named 'Keanucon'.

If you want to catch The Matrix on the big screen once again, it will be available at all 135 Dolby Cinema AMC theaters from August 30th to September 5th.
