Fans of The 1% Club have found themselves in an absolute tizzy following a recent episode, all thanks to one brain-busting question that had viewers screaming at their TVs (and their phones).

If you've never heard of the show, it begins with 100 participants, with the number slowly decreasing as they try to answer questions that only a certain percentage of the nation answered correctly in hopes of winning a life-changing sum of money.

The final question is so tough that only 1% of those surveyed got it right - hence the show's name.

As usual, comedian and host Lee Mack brought his signature charm to the show, but this time he also brought a curveball. During the episode, he asked contestants the ultimate head-scratcher: "Which of these groups of six symbols are in the same order whether you read them from left to right or from right to left?"

Cue confusion, panic, and a lot of squinting at the screen. Contestants were given five options, but the moment the answer was revealed, chaos erupted both in the studio and on social media.

It wasn’t just that the answer — C — was announced. It’s that viewers refused to believe it was correct. Many swore it should’ve been A, not C, claiming the show made an error. The screen flashed C, but social media users insisted the truth was murkier than that.

The debate spilled over to X (formerly known as Twitter), where fans tried to solve the mystery—or just vent their frustration.

One user wrote: "I said A and I still think A. I don't understand how it's not."

Another was straight-up begging for answers: "Can someone please explain how it's C?"

Another added: "I thought it was A. C isn't in the same order. Explain please someone?"

"I said A and I still think A. I don’t understand how it’s not," another viewer replied.

Others argued it was all about interpretation.

"This is a trick question,” one viewer declared. “A or C could be correct depending on the definition of right to left used."

But the plot thickened when one particularly determined fan laid out their theory in full: "It's not about being mirrored; it's about what symbol is what. So A would be (from L-R): left bracket, right bracket, left bracket etc., but R-L it would be: right bracket, left bracket etc., which is different. Whereas C is left arrow-right arrow-right arrow etc. from both ends!"

If that explanation left your brain feeling like scrambled eggs, you’re not alone.

Despite the uproar, a handful of contestants actually managed to crack the code, with four lucky winners splitting a whopping £97,000 ($122,000) jackpot after acing the final question.

But for the rest of us, who are still scratching our heads? Let’s just say it’s probably a good thing we’re watching from the couch and not on stage.

And this isn't the first time the show caused carnage on couches.

The Australian version of the show - hosted by comedian Jim Jefferies - recently asked the question: “Frodo has forgotten his hotel room number. All he remembers is that it had at least one 'nine'.

"If the hotel has rooms numbered one to 100, how many might be Frodo's?" he added.

Once again, the correct answer - which was 19 - caused uproar in comment sections as people refused to believe the show was correct.

Confused fans know one thing for sure—The 1% Club doesn’t just test your intelligence; it challenges your very will to live. Better luck next time, eh?
