Freddie Flintoff has been airlifted to hospital after being injured in an accident while filming for the BBC show Top Gear.
Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff, 45, joined the car show in 2019 alongside co-stars Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. The trio review cars alongside engaging in some bizarre and exciting challenges.
Flintoff was an England cricketing legend, as he was made captain of the national team in 2006 and then again in 2007 before announcing his retirement from the sport in 2010 - though he did return four years later for a spell in Lancashire, per TalkSport.
His retirement from cricket has led to him being a staple on British television. He joined James Corden on the comedy sports show A League Of Their Own, as well as being crowned king of the jungle in Australia's first season of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2015.
Flintoff, who now hosts the BBC's Top Gear, was involved in an incident this week which resulted in him being airlifted to hospital.
As reported by the BBC, the crash took place at Top Gear's test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey on Tuesday morning (December 13), and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: "Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning - with crew medics attending the scene immediately.
"He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course," the spokesperson concluded.
A source told The Sun: "He was driving on the track as normal. He wasn’t going at high speeds – it was just an accident that could happen to anyone. His injuries are not life-threatening and he is receiving treatment."
Flintoff's son, 16-year-old Corey Flintoff, told the Daily Mail: "He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.
"It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK."
As per the Evening Standard, this isn't the first crash that Flintoff has had since taking over hosting duties on the show. In February 2019 he crashed into a market stall in Nottinghamshire.
In September of the same year, he reportedly crashed at 199kmph at Elvington Airfield while driving a three-wheeled vehicle. He walked away from these incidents unharmed.
Top Gear has been running since 2002 - with past hosts being Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, the latter of whom was left in a coma after a serious crash in 2006 at the same airfield as Flintoff's incident.
Filming has been postponed while Flintoff receives treatment.
