Courteney Cox has opened up about how she turned to cosmetic procedures in a desperate bid to chase her youthful appearance.

The Friends star - who starred as Monica Geller in the hit sitcom - explained that while she is comfortable now with changing and "looking older," she previously had a hard time coming to terms with it.

Cox said she had let go of trying to look the same as she did when she was starring as Friends in the 1990s and 2000s.

What's more, the 57-year-old said the cosmetic injections she's had done in the past have left her looking "really strange".

"There was a time when you go, 'Oh, I'm changing. I'm looking older.' And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years," she told The Sunday Times Style.

"And I didn't realize that, oh s**t, I'm actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now."

Cox said one day she just realized what her friends "were talking about."

"Because people would talk about me, I think. But there was a period where I went, 'I've got to stop. That's just crazy,'" she added.

Back in 2017, Cox says she's had all her fillers dissolved that same year, and that she's as "natural as I can be."

She told the outlet that it was easy to gradually go overboard with different treatments, explaining: "You have no idea because it’s gradual until you go, 'Oh, s**t, this doesn't look right.'"

In her interview with The Sunday Times Style, Cox said the attention to women in the public eye as they get older is tough to bear.

"The scrutiny is intense, but I don’t know if it could be more intense than what I put on myself," she told the outlet. She's still trying all kinds of new beauty products, she said. "I"m a product whore," she quipped. "I will try anything."

Elsewhere in the interview, Cox said she "can't believe" her next milestone birthday will be 60.

She said: "Oh God, it's so hard to even hear or say. I can't believe it. There's nothing wrong with being 60, I just can't believe it. Time goes so fast.

"There's no question that I am more grounded, I've learned so much in my life — what to enjoy, what to try to do more of and what to let go of."
