Gayle King got visibly emotional on-air on Tuesday morning over two racially charged incidents involving black men that took place on Monday.
A shaken King told CBS This Morning viewers: "I am speechless. I am really, really speechless about what we're seeing on television this morning. It feels to me like open season… and that sometimes it's not a safe place to be in this country for black men."
Listen to an emotional King below:One of the incidents resulted in an investment company placing one of its female employees on administrative leave after she was recorded calling the police on a black man in Central Park, the New York Post reports.
In a video of the incident that was later posted to Twitter, the woman - who reports are identifying as Amy Cooper - can be heard telling the emergency service operator that an "African-American man" was "threatening her and her dog".
But Christian Cooper, the accused, can be heard speaking calmly throughout the video, and claims he had only asked Amy Cooper to put her dog on a leash. When she refused, he offered the dog a treat in an attempt to get her to do so.
Then, in another incident, an African-American man died in Minneapolis following his arrest, which saw a white police officer place his knee on his neck "for five minutes".
The incident took place when police officers were alerted that an unidentified man in his 40s was under the influence, CBS reports. After locating the man in his car, the two officers said he "physically resisted" arrested.
However, footage of the incident captured by a passerby revealed another side of the story.
The woman who captured the footage, Darnella Frazier, wrote on Facebook: "They killed him right in front of cup foods over south on 38th and Chicago!! No type of sympathy #POLICEBRUTALITY."
*We will not be sharing the video, but it can be found on Miss Frazier's Facebook page HERE*"As the daughter of a black man and the mother of a black man, this is really too much for me today. I'm still rattled by that last story (from Minneapolis)," King told viewers during the 'What to Watch' segment of 'CBS This Morning' which sees her discuss headlines and pop culture trends alongside co-anchors Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil.
