Grey's Anatomy actress Caterina Scorsone has shared how she rescued her three children from a harrowing fire that destroyed her home and pets.
The 41-year-old actress - who starred as Dr. Amelia Shepherd in the medical drama - posted a statement on her Instagram disclosing that she has been prepping her daughters for bed when the fire took hold.
Scorsone explained that as she was finishing bathing her kids, she saw smoke in the hallway and realized that she had mere minutes to run from her property.
Sharing photos of the fire's aftermath, her children, and her now-deceased cats and dog, the Station 19 actress penned: "A couple of months ago my house burned down."
Read Scorsone's post below:"While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout around the tub. When I looked down the hallway a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house," she continued.
"One thing about fires: they happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we escaped with less than shoes on our feet. But we got out. And for that, I am eternally grateful."
"Heartbreakingly, we lost all four of our pets. We are still sitting with that loss, but we are lucky we got to love them at all," the Alice star sadly revealed, showcasing memories of the family's beloved animals.
Scorsone divulged to her followers the lessons she has taken away from the traumatic experience, writing: "What we learned is that the only thing that matters are the people (and beings) that you love. The only thing that matters is community. We would not be here without it, and we are so grateful."
The Canadian-American actress also expressed her gratitude to the people who have helped her family, such as her sisters, firefighters, her children's school, Grey's Anatomy colleagues, and members of the show's production company who sent clothing and supplies.
"Here are some photos to honor the space we once called home, to say goodbye to the animals that loved us so well, and to celebrate that we have the only thing we ever really needed: each other. -Love, Caterina," she concluded.
Scorsone's comments section was flooded with friends and costars sharing their condolences as well as applauding her for her resilience and strength.
Chris Carmack - who plays Atticus "Link" Lincoln on Grey's Anatomy - commented: "I hope I never have to deal with anything like this… but if I do, I hope I can follow your example of grace under terrible circumstances… love to you and the family."
Fellow costar Jake Borelli - known for portraying Dr. Levi Schmitt in the series - remarked: "You are truly an incredible human and I am sending all the love I have to you and yours."
Camilla Luddington - who starred as Dr. Josephine "Jo" Wilson in the ABC medical drama - added: "What an incredible mom inspiration you are... you are SO loved!"
Scorsone is mother to daughters Eliza, 10, Paloma, six, and Lucky, three - whom she shares with her ex-husband, musician Rob Giles.
