Hailey Bieber has sparked outrage on social media over her latest beauty technique.

The 25-year-old model took to Tiktok to show how she’s been lining her lips for the fall season in a style she has dubbed the "glazed brownie" lips.

In the video, Bieber demonstrates how she lines her lips using a brown lip liner, before adding more to her lower lip and cupid’s bow and smudging it in. She then adds her glossy Rhode’s Peptide Lip Treatment over the top.

However, many users on the video-sharing app weren’t happy with the influencer and accused her of taking credit for a lip combo that was reportedly already popular with Latina and Black women since the late 80s, per beauty and lifestyle blogger, @isapereiraav.

As of this writing, the video amassed 14.8 million views and 1.1 million likes, with many users expressing their opinion on the socialite's video.

Critics argued that the look derived from the "Chola" aesthetic which is interchangeable with Mexican-American women. Within this subculture, the women have defined eyebrows and the lips are typically overlined with dark liner to create a bold outline of the lips.

One user wrote: "Okay whats the name of the Latina you saw with this lip combo? cause this has been a thing since the 90s lol."

Another said: "Old School POC lip combo. Been doing it since [the] 90s."

A third commented: "Girl admit where you really got this from."

A fourth wrote: "This isn’t anything new. This combo has been a thing for years."

However, other users on the social media platform came to Bieber's defense and stated that she didn't outrightly state that she "invented" the lip combo.

One user shared: "I really don’t know why you’re coming at her. She said what she’s vibing with for Fall. She didn’t claim to start the trend. It’s the audience."

While another user remarked: "All of y’all saying that she didn’t start this trend but when did she say she started it tho?? She just said she likes this lip combo lmfao."

A third chimed in and said: "I don’t see why all the hate she didn’t say she was starting a new trend she is just showing us what she likes to do on her."

In addition to the controversy, Bieber also recently came under fire for popularising the "clean girl aesthetic" trend, which is her glowy and minimalized makeup look.

While the TikTok trend is considered an interpretation of the simple 90s and early 00s "off-duty model" look with hoop earrings, slicked-back hair, and minimal make-up - many consider the aesthetic to be once again heavily inspired by Black and Latina women.

As of now, Bieber hasn't addressed any of the criticism.
