Today marks the 82nd birthday of one of the most influential names in music!
On this special occasion, we're taking the opportunity to celebrate some of the legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan's music and reflect on his stellar career.
Born on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, Dylan spent his childhood in the iron-mining town of Hibbing and taught himself how to play the piano and guitar.
Later on, he featured in several bands and even studied at the University of Minnesota. But, it was his passion to share his love for music with others that allowed him to become a staple figure in the industry for over 60 years.
Check out one of Dylan's hit songs below:The Grammy-winning artist's remarkable catalog - which spans six decades - represents some of the most significant creations in American folk and rock music.
Songs like 'Like A Rolling Stone,' 'All Along The Watchtower,' 'Tangled Up In Blue,' 'Maggie’s Farm,' and 'I Shall Be Released' are just a small element of the musician's legacy. He has also released several albums over the years like Blonde on Blonde, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited, and Time Out of Mind.
Dylan has also been credited with bringing contemporary folk music into the rock and pop music era, as well as his songs becoming anthems for the civil rights and antiwar movements.
The lyrics for classics like 'Blowin' in the Wind' (1963) and 'The Times They Are a-Changin' (1964) comprised a range of political, social, and philosophical influences which defied pop music conventions.
In celebration of the big day, many supporters and fellow musicians have taken to Twitter to wish the music legend a happy birthday.
Rock band The Doors reflected on the star's career by writing: "Happy Birthday to the legendary Mr. @BobDylan. Much like The Doors, Dylan was no stranger to controversy and did not play by the rules.
"Bob declined a performance on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW in 1963 due to censorship. The Doors would later go on to get in hot water for the same issue in 1967, defying orders to change the lyrics in 'Light My Fire,'" they added.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr posted lyrics of Dylan's 'Masters of War', penning: "Few have said it as well as Bob Dylan: 'Come you masters of war. You that build all the guns. You that build the death planes. You that build the big bombs. You that hide behind walls. You that hide behind desks. I just want you to know I can see through your masks... Let me ask you one question.
"Is your money that good? Will it buy you forgiveness, do you think that it could? I think you will find, when your death takes its toll, all the money you made will never buy back your soul.' Happy 82nd birthday, Bob!" Kennedy added.
Meanwhile, one fan expressed: "Happy 82nd Birthday Bob Dylan! ~ He once said, 'I'd like to be able to hit a hundred-mile-an-hour baseball. But you have to know your place.'"
And, another said: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most important man in the world!!!!! bob dylan turns 82 years old today and I’m making it everyone's problem. music would mean nothing without you bobby!!!!"
The amazing composer isn't slowing down anytime soon so let’s continue to celebrate him.
