Rupert Grint, best known for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, has become a dad for the first time.

The 31-year-old actor welcomed a baby girl with his 28-year-old girlfriend Georgia Groome, who is also an actress best known for playing the title character in Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging.

Per the Metro, news of the pregnancy first came to light in April when Groome was pictured in North London with her growing bump.

Now, representatives for the couple have today announced that they have welcomed a healthy baby girl.

"Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are delighted to confirm the birth of their baby girl," they said in a statement.

"We would please ask that you respect their privacy at this very special time."

This means that Grint is the first of Harry Potter's three titular stars to become a parent.

Last month, fans of the Harry Potter franchise were overjoyed when Grint first announced that he was expecting a baby.

One person wrote: "Awe Rupert Grint's gonna be a dad, super cute; hands down the nicest big name celebrity I've ever met! congratulations to him and Georgia!"

Another shared: "You don't understand. I've been a Rupert Grint stan for half my life and I was there since the first sighting with Georgia, through all the horrible online & in person abuse both him and Georgia had to endure over the years. 9 years and counting and now they're expecting a baby."

A third wrote: "friendly reminder that rupert grint used his harry potter cash to buy an ice cream truck, which he drives around to hand out free ice cream. he’s gonna be such a great dad."

In a 2018 interview with The Guardian the Harry Potter actor talked about turning 30 and revealed that he would like to settle down and have kids in the not-too-distant future. He said:

"It just doesn’t feel like I’m there yet and I don’t know what the future holds. I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters and see what happens. I’d like to settle down and have kids soon. If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It’s quite a good name, but probably not. And Grint’s a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with."

Congratulations to the couple, we wish them all the best!
