It's time for Harry Potter fans to get excited, as a new TV series has been confirmed and it'll span across a decade!
Whether you love or hate the wizarding world of Harry Potter, it's clear to see that it is one of the biggest franchises of all time, with eight movies, three spin-off movies, video games, a play, and theme parks... and that isn't including the merchandise!
The original set of movies is loved across the world as Harry, Ron, and Hermione became as much a part of people's lives as their own friends and family.
The successful release of the video game, Hogwarts Legwarts, showed there is still a strong desire for Harry Potter-related content, and HBO Max and Discovery+ have answered the call.
Watch the announcement below:The two companies have combined to create a new service called Max, and during a press release they stated the new series will be "a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer, J.K. Rowling."
While revealing that the series will span over the course of a decade, Max has vowed to produce it in a way that honors the books and what Harry Potter fans have come to love over the years.
Given that the announcement trailer involves the original movie score and Hogwarts looks the way we know it, it would seem that the series will be faithful to the movies and books.
"We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way," the CEO of HBO and Max content, Casey Bloys said in a press release. "Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros."
Bloys went on: "Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years."
The new series has the seal of approval from Potter's creator, J.K Rowling, who stated: "Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series"
As reported by the Daily Mail, David Heyman, a producer on all eight of the Potter movies, is set to be in talks to be an executive producer on the series, so we might be in safe hands!
Unfortunately, we won't be seeing the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint or Emma Watson reprise their roles as the series is set to take on a brand new cast.
This would make sense considering the trio might struggle to get away with portraying 11-year-old students in the first series.
There is currently no confirmation on who will be taking on the iconic roles, but Potter fans everywhere can start to get excited!
