Recently, the 17-year-old reality TV star - whose real name is Alana Thompson - went live on TikTok to announce that she would start talking differently since people have been telling her she talks "ghetto".

Speaking with an exaggerated accent, she is heard saying: "I’ma actually start talking like this … OK. Cuz' y’all think I’m so ghetto, I’m finna show y'all how f***ing ghetto."

"Because I don't know what you're talking about," she continued while patting her hair. "But, baby let me tell you, on this side we good... We good on this side boo."

As soon as a video snippet of the live session was shared on other social media platforms, many users quickly called out the internet personality.

One user reacted: "She knows damn well she don't sound like that."

Another responded: "I just don't find this funny and I don't [f*** with] her."

A third person exclaimed: "THE PATTING ON HER HEAD WHAT R U PATTING."

A fourth shared: "Honey boo-boo patting her head in that video was distasteful. she equates that with ghetto representing something only Black women do in which we do to protect our hairstyle while relieving an itch. It’s not something people should view as ghetto."

On Sunday (March 16), Thompson took to her Instagram Stories to clarify the reason for her new accent. She first re-shared a post that read: "She was doing this accent on purpose because people think she fakes her southern accent. But if you really know Honey Boo Boo, she's always had a southern accent. She's basically trolling her viewers."

Under the re-shared post, the former child star wrote: "Some people enjoy saying anything to get views! People enjoy creating things that are false."

"No, I wasn’t attempting to offend anyone," the Toddlers and Tiaras alum said of the backlash. "I did this because people frequently comment on how 'ghetto' my speech is. Which I feel in no way I do. I feel I am my own true self and if you don't like it you simply don't have to comment on it!"

She explained that she created the viral video in an attempt to "troll everyone back," and stated that she was "proving a point to the Karens that love to have an opinion on everything".

The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum went on to address the head tap that offended many people, writing: "Also I would love to add that in no way was I being rude or disrespectful by the head taps."

"I [understand] that people use that method to relieve itch when they have a hairstyle. I’m fully aware, I also love trying new wigs as well … lastly, this is the end I will speak on this topic," she concluded.

Thompson's message to followers comes after news that 21-year-old her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, was arrested for driving under the influence on February 28.

According to In Touch, her boyfriend was apprehended by cops and charged with following too closely, failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and speeding, fleeing, and attempting to evade police.

He was held in Monroe County jail for two days and was later released on a $25,000 bond.
