Netflix fans have been warned not to watch the frightening sequel Don't Breathe 2 alone.

The chilling movie - directed by Rodo Sayagues - was released in 2021 and added to the streaming service recently. It follows the original 2016 film which was directed by Fede Álvarez and starred Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, and Daniel Zovatto.

The first movie focused on a trio of thieves who broke into a blind man named Norman Nordstrom's house in hopes of walking away with a fortune. But they quickly realized that not only was he not an easy target, but he is also very deadly.

The sequel - which came out five years later - featured a new cast: Madelyn Grace, Brendan Sexton III, and Adam Young, with Lang reprising his role as Nordstrom.

The second movie was set years after the deadly home invasion, as the leading man now lives in quiet solace with his foster daughter, Phoenix, but his harrowing past soon catches up with him.

After the film was released on the streaming giant, many frightened viewers took to their social media to confess that they were afraid of being home alone after watching it.

One user wrote: "Watching Don’t Breathe 2 and if you know me I do NOT do scary movies. yeaa I’m not staying home by myself tonight ! I’m outta here," while another user penned: "I finally watched Don’t Breathe 2 & my scary a** jumped the whole movie."

A third person commented: "More violent and gruesome than the first. Entire context changes from being scared of the blind guy to rooting for the blind guy. Thought it won't work but it actually did. Perfect theatre moments. Major portion of film stays true to its home invasion genre!"

A fourth shared: "I thought Don't Breathe 2 wouldn't be as terrifying as the first movie because it involved his 'daughter' this time but Jesus Christ then went in ten times harder than the first."

A final person warned: "Watching Don't Breathe 2 alone is NOT a good idea at all."

The movie was not that popular with critics - having a 43% percent score on Rotten Tomatoes - but it was a hit amongst audiences, scoring a whopping 85 percent rating.

Many critics praised the 70-year-old actor - who plays the blind man - for his performance. Allison Rose from FlickDirect gave the movie a 3/5 rating and wrote: "Lang did an excellent job in the first film, which is what I believe helped to make it so successful and he is no less ruthless or cunning in this sequel."

Kevin Carr from Fat Guys at the Movies also complimented Lang: "Stephen Lang is such a powerful actor... in this movie, they make him a much more sympathetic character, and he's this force of nature that goes after people."

Ronak Kotecha for The Times of India hailed the overall film, stating: "Whether this sequel is better than the original is still debatable but there is no doubt that 'Don't Breathe 2' has the urgency, suspense and thrill to make us hold our breath for the next installment."
