Jack Nicholson was snapped by paps for the first time in 18 months recently, and fans have already rushed to his defense over the recent images.
The 85-year-old acting legend hasn't been seen publicly for close to two years, with reports emerging in January that his friends were concerned about him after not having seen him for so long.
Nicholson was then papped on his balcony, with images of him published online at The Daily Mail.
The outlet called him "disheveled", and many angry fans took to social media to defend the star.
The images showed a tired-looking Nicholson standing on the balcony of his Beverly Hills home and rubbing his eyes, dressed in a baggy orange t-shirt and navy blue shorts. Evidently, netizens online were pretty upset at this apparent violation of privacy.
"Yeah, cause he's 85, and you're a garbage publication that only seeks to leech off of people and cause endless misery," one person wrote.
"Dude looks great. We should all be so lucky to be doing so well at 85," someone else added.
A further comment read: "He's 85 and he doesn't look 'disheveled'. He looks like he just woke up from a nice nap you a**holes!"
"1) he's 85 f**king years old 2) if I had zero privacy and had just woken up to a bunch of freaks taking photos of me in my own home, I'd look a bit out of sorts too 3) he's 85 f**king years old," another user wrote.
Something many tabloid news outlets conveniently fail to mention is that Nicholson is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of his generation. He often plays eccentric main characters and has starred in countless classic movies, including 1980's The Shining and 2006's The Departed.
His iconic line in The Shining - "Here's Johnny" - cemented the film's legacy as one of the most frightening horror movies of all time. Aside from that, he is the most nominated male actor at the Academy Awards, and has taken home the coveted golden statuette for his performances as a mental patient in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), a retired astronaut in Terms of Endearment (1983), and a novelist in As Good as it Gets (1997).
Nicholson's most recent film appearance was in the 2010 romcom How Do You Know - which also starred Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd.
