Jada Pinkett Smith's been open about dealing with hair loss for years, but she refuses to let it bring her down.
The 50-year-old actress, who suffers from autoimmune disorder alopecia, shared a candid Instagram video showing off one of the bare scalp patches that she's choosing to embrace.
While showing off some hair loss at the top of her head, the mom-of-two explained that she didn't get "brain surgery" and it was just her alopecia.
"Now at this point, I can only laugh. I mean y'all know I've been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden, one day — look at this line right here — look at that," she said while touching her scalp.
"And so, it just showed up like that. This is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I'd just share it so y'all are not asking any questions."
Rather than getting upset or self-conscious about it, the actress prefers to put a positive spin on her hair loss.
"But you know mama's going to put some rhinestones in there. I'm going to make me a little crown. That's what mama's going to do," she said in the video.
She captioned her Instagram video: "Mama's gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!"
This past July, the actress and wife of Will Smith was inspired by her 21-year-old daughter Willow to completely shave her head.
Debuting her buzz cut, she wrote at the time: "Willow made me do it because it was time to let go. BUT … my 50's are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed."
In 2018, opened up about her "issues with hair loss" during an episode of Red Table Talk, explaining: "It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh my god, am I going bald?'
The Bad Moms actress explained the moment to be "one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear."
"That's why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it," she went on. "My hair has been a big part of me. Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual and having the choice to have hair or not. And then one day to be like, 'Oh my god, I might not have that choice anymore.'"
Ultimately, the actress said she thought much less about her own struggles and more about others who have lost their hair to more serious matters.
"I really had to put it into a spiritual perspective, like the higher power takes so much from people," she explained. "People are out here with cancer. People have sick children. I watch the higher power take things every day."
"Looking at it from that context really did settle me," the Girls Trip star added.
