Jaden Smith has opened up about his use of psychedelic drugs, and how his mother was the one who opened that world to him.

The Smith family is never far from the spotlight, and that's down to the roaring success of each of them, be it in the world of showbiz or music.

Jaden, 24, is the son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and he has forged a successful career on the big screen and as a rapper, and he has been fairly open about his use of drugs.

As reported by the Independent, the 24-year-old made an appearance at the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver, Colorado last week.

Psychedelic drugs are largely illegal in the United States, but in Colorado and Oregon, they are partly legal - with magic mushrooms available in Colorado for recreational use.

Taking to the stage at the conference, Jaden admitted that it was his mother who took that first step into the world of psychedelic drugs, and the family soon followed suit.

"I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family," Jaden said. "It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved, and everybody found it in their own ways."

The actor and musician further revealed that he credits psychedelic drugs in deepening his connection with family members such as his 30-year-old half-brother Trey and 22-year-old sister Willow.

"Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past," Jaden said. "But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the [psychedelic] experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful."

Jada, Jaden's mother, appeared on Red Table Talk in 2021 where she opened up about her use of drugs. She explained that conventional medication didn't help her with depression, but psychedelics did.

"I struggled with depression for so long. And the thing about the plant medicine is it helps you feel better but also solves the problems of how you got there in the first place," she said.

She did add a word of warning, however, that anybody wanting to venture down this road should seek professional help before going it alone.

"You have to be willing to confront some hard stuff. It is very healing and it has changed my life," Jada concluded.
