The next James Bond is yet to be announced, but reports claim that Henry Cavill's auditions for the role were "tremendous".
The privilege of playing James Bond is something that only a handful of actors will ever be able to have, and they will all be under the spotlight as they do it.
Daniel Craig has been our Bond since the mid-00's and it's tough to think of anybody else taking over the role, but the time is fast approaching when a decision must be made.
Everyone presumably has their frontrunner for the iconic role, with some suggesting actors like Idris Elba and Tom Hardy - but what about Henry Cavill?
The Superman actor is the epitome of a classy British man, as he often demonstrates during interviews where he displays his charm and politeness.
Cavill has been the name on many people's minds when it comes to the next Bond - but it turns out he nearly got the role 18 years ago when he was 22 years old.
Martin Campbell directed Pierce Brosnan's first appearance as Bond in GoldenEye, and he was invited back to relaunch the series with Craig playing 007.
Speaking to the Express, Campbell has revealed that during the audition process, it came down to Craig and Cavill, and it seems like it was a tough choice.
"He [Cavill] looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous," Campbell told the outlet. "If Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little young at that time back then."
Cavill is now 40, and questions are being raised about whether he is too old to play 007, which would be a cruel twist of fate after being deemed to be too young those years ago.
Campbell offered insight into this, saying: "Henry’s 40, so by the time he’s done the third one he’s going to be 50 and anything beyond that’s two, three years per Bond. He’s in good shape Henry, he’s a good guy."
Craig appeared in his last Bond movie, No Time To Die, when he had passed the age of 50, so the door could still be open for Cavill to get a few under his belt before stepping aside.
Campbell said that it's usually the custom for new Bond actors to sign on for an initial three movies, which would roughly take around six years to make - so if they start now, Cavill would be 46.
The Witcher actor is definitely up there as one of the favorites, and there is no question that he would be perfect for the role.
Only time will tell when it comes to who will be the next Bond...
