Jane Fonda has revealed that her cancer is in remission, dubbing it the "best present" ahead of her upcoming birthday this month.
In September, the 84-year-old Hollywood icon revealed she had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - a type of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system and has a 73% overall five-year relative survival rate, per the American Cancer Society.
At the time, Fonda shared on her Instagram that the cancer is "very treatable" and acknowledged that she is "privileged" in being able to afford quality healthcare when many others can't.
Now, in a joyful post shared on her blog page titled: "BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!," the Oscar-winning actress who turns 85 on December 21, revealed that she can now stop chemotherapy treatments.
"Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo," the Grace and Frankie star said in her post.
"I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news."
In September, the activist said that her chemotherapy would last six months, and in her post shared on December 15, Fonda wrote that her first four chemo treatments were "rather easy" for her, with only some tiredness as a side effect.
But, she said that her most recent treatment was more "rough" and lasted for two weeks, making it "hard to accomplish anything."
However, the Barbarella actress added that the effects of the final session wore off just in time for her first in-person Fire Drill Friday - a series of actions spearheaded by Fonda to demand leaders act on the climate emergency - in three years.
"Thank heavens for that because it was a busy week. Besides the rally, I did some lobbying and spoke twice at the Democracy Alliance," she wrote, urging her followers to "stop Senator Joe Manchin’s [… ]Dirty Deal," which she claimed, "seeks to fast track fossil fuel projects".
The fitness guru then concluded her post by expressing gratitude to those who sent well wishes her way and wished everyone a festive and healthy holiday.
This is not the first time that the Book Club star has battled cancer. In 2010, a representative for Fonda told People that a tumor had been discovered during a routine checkup - but after it was removed, she was "completely fine".
Also, Fonda has previously undergone a lumpectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and in 2018, she revealed that she had a cancerous growth removed from her lip.
While promoting a season of her Netflix show, the actress clarified in an interview with AOL Build that she was wearing a bandage on her lip as a result of the procedure.
"I just had cancer taken from my lip," she said. "I thought it was going to heal in time before I came before you, but it's fine. I just wanted to explain it. I don't normally go around like this."
