Jenna Ortega has just landed a highly coveted Golden Globe Best Actress nomination for her role as Wednesday Addams in Netflix's latest comedy horror series, Wednesday.

Directed by Tim Burton - the man behind Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse Bride, and The Nightmare Before Christmas - Wednesday is a fresh take on the immensely popular Addams Family. Despite starting as a comic strip during the 1930s, many viewers will know the family best from the hit movies The Addams Family (1991), and Addams Family Values (1993) - which starred Christina Ricci and Anjelica Huston.

The latest series, however, focuses solely on Wednesday Addams - the family's eldest child. Played by 20-year-old Ortega, the series follows Wednesday as she becomes a student at a boarding school for misfits, where she has to learn to use her newfound psychic powers. She harnesses these powers to help solve a decades-long murder mystery involving her parents, Gomez and Morticia.

Obviously, the series was brilliant enough to earn a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy. Ortega earned her first nomination too, for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

According to Movie Web, the Latina actress is going up against Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Kaley Cuoco for The Flight Attendant, Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building, and Jean Smart for Hacks. Though, judging by the show's popularity across social media, many people will likely be rooting for Ortega to win the prestigious award.

In fact, Screen Rant reported that the show was so popular that it managed to smash Netflix for most hours viewed - with a staggering total of 411 million hours viewed since its release!

Fans on Twitter shared their praise for Ortega, adding that they hoped she'd win the Golden Globe.

"[Hell] yeah you go Jenna Ortega hopefully you get awards [...] Jenna Ortega did pretty good job as Wednesday in series The Addams family Wednesday," someone tweeted.

"I'm happy for her and it's deserved. She did an amazing job! I love her portrayal of Wednesday," another comment read.

"Oh my god, very well deserved. I'm so pleased. Well done," someone else added.

A further user agreed, writing: "She was SO good. Anyone who hasn't watched it NEEDS to watch [sic]."

Evidently, Burton himself seemed to believe he made the right choice in casting Ortega as Wednesday, as he's praised her acting skills in recent interviews.

"Jenna's one of the most talented people I've worked with. She's like a silent movie actress in the sense that she's able to convey things without words. Her words are very strong, and she's got a very strong point of view, but to show the subtleties underneath that was very, very exciting," he stated, via Express.

"It's exciting to see Wednesday as an older character, we usually see Wednesday as a younger girl, and so it was exciting to explore those weird feelings you have as a teenager that sometimes never really leave you," he added.

With comedian Jerrod Carmichael slated to host, the event is already highly anticipated - but we'll have to wait until January 10, 2023, to find out the winners.
