So, Jeremy Clarkson was just voted the UK's sexiest man. No, we are certainly not living in an alternate reality.
The news must have come as a surprise to the 62-year-old TV personality, whose political views and recent comments have reportedly found him to be on the brink of losing his job as a presenter on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
Though, Clarkson's newfound position as the island nation's hunkiest male wasn't part of a GQ list, rather, a poll compiled by IllicitEncounters - a website that claims to be the best online dating place for married people. Classy.
Anyway, the former Top Gear host was joined by an eclectic mix of celebs - including Idris Elba, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and British money guru Martin Lewis, per the Mirror.
It would come as a shock to many that Clarkson - who writes a column for The Sunday Times and The Sun newspapers - managed to receive 2,000+ votes in the sexiest man poll, especially given the intense fallout from a scathing column he penned about Meghan Markle, 41, in January for The Sun.
Clarkson had written the piece after the release of Meghan and Prince Harry's Netflix docuseries, as well as Harry's bombshell memoir, Spare. In his column, Clarkson fantasized about hurling fistfuls of excrement at the Los Angeles-based former senior royal - taking inspiration from Game of Thrones, when the murderous queen Cersei is forced to walk naked through the streets as her subjects scream insults and throw excrement and rotten food at her.
"I actually feel rather sorry for [Harry] because today he's just a glove puppet with no more control over what he says or does than Basil Brush," Clarkson, a father to two daughters, wrote.
"Meghan, though, is a different story. I hate her. Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level," he continued. "At night, I'm unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, 'Shame!'"
In the wake of the article - which was later removed at the TV star's request - Clarkson was subject to intense public scrutiny and over 6,000 complaints - even from his own daughter Emily.
Eventually, he apologized via a now-deleted Instagram post, which included a caption that read in part: "I really am sorry. All the way from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head. This is me putting my hands up. It's a mea culpa with bells on."
