Jimmy Kimmel has a plan in place if anybody tries to slap him at this year's Oscars, and it apparently involves beating up anybody who attempts to confront him.

It seems bizarre that the host of one of Hollywood's most prestigious awards ceremonies has to contemplate what to do in the event somebody attempts to assault him while on stage, but this is where we are now.

Last year's academy awards descended into chaos after the host Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith that didn't sit well with her husband.

Will Smith, who at first appeared to find the joke amusing, began shouting "keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth" before casually walking on stage and landing a slap to Rock's face.

Watch the incident below:

Of course, this year's ceremony will be surrounded by intrigue as all eyes will be on the host Jimmy Kimmel, 55, who returns for his third appearance at the awards.

The comedian and talk show host has admitted that he has considered what he would do if someone tried assaulting him on stage, and it involves getting physical.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, the 55-year-old said: "If somebody comes up on the stage and slaps me? Well, I size them up, and, if I’m bigger than they are, I beat the s*** out of them on television. And if it’s the Rock, I run."

Running away from Dwayne Johnson seems like a completely reasonable thing to do but the former wrestler seems like the sort of guy who would take any joke directed at him on the chin.

Kimmel acknowledged that speaking about the slap from last year is getting "boring" but he will have to reference it as it will be on everyone's mind.

"Well, whatever I say about it, it’s going to have to be great, right?" Kimmel said. "Because so much has been said and there’s so much focus on it. I obviously don’t want to make the whole monologue about that, but it would be ridiculous not to mention it."

A "crisis team" has been called in for this year's Academy Awards following the incident from last year, but it would appear that Kimmel isn't involved in it. "I wish I knew. I’ve not been involved in that. I guess I’m the last thing they’re worried about," he joked.

The comedian also referenced the drama that occurred when he hosted the awards back in 2017 when the wrong name was read out for the best picture award.

See the moment that the wrong winner was announced below:

For the most hotly contested award of the evening, La La Land was unveiled as the winner. But it was only when the crew was halfway through their acceptance speech that they were informed that the wrong envelope had been distributed and the correct winner was actually Moonlight.

It would seem that Kimmel found some humor in the incident, and the Will Smith slap has deflated him a bit. "It’s disappointing in a lot of ways. If you’re gonna be part of a f*** up, it might as well be the biggest f*** up ever. Being part of the second-biggest f*** up doesn’t carry as much cachet," he told the Hollywood Reporter.

Will there be any major drama this year? We'll find out on Sunday!
