John Stamos has recently reminisced on the time he called for twin actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to be fired from the hit sitcom Full House.
The 59-year-old actor - who is arguably every mother's celebrity crush - solidified his career in the sitcom from 1987 to 1995, in which he played Jesse Katsopolis.
Jesse was the uncle of Mary-Kate and Ashley's character Michelle - who was portrayed by both girls.
Though, it wasn't always happy families and smooth sailing - as Stamos recalled on a recent episode of Josh Peck and Ben Soffer's Good Guys podcast that he very nearly got the twins fired.
"Did you try to get the Olsen twins fired?" Peck asked the actor, to which Stamos said in no uncertain terms, "I did. I didn't try."
During the episode, Stamos explained that he and his castmate Dave Coulier were tasked with changing the then-11-month-old Olsen twins' nappies as part of a scene. "So, we're carrying the baby downstairs and we take her in the kitchen and we hose her down. And she was screaming. Both of them. They wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I," he told Peck and Soffer.
Slowly, Stamos became increasingly frustrated with the twins' lack of cooperation, declaring that he simply could not work with the babies any longer. "They were 11 months old, and God bless them. They kept switching: 'This one's not gonna cry.' I couldn't deal with it. And I said, 'This is not gonna work.' I screamed at [the producers], 'I can't work like this.' And so they got rid of them," Stamos revealed.
Given the stress of the situation, the producers decided it would be best that the Olsens be replaced by other babies. Though, this clearly didn't seem to work as, days later, it became apparent to the crew that the new babies weren't an ideal fit. As such, Stamos asked for Mary-Kate and Ashley to return as baby Michelle.
"It was only a few days, and I said, 'Bring the Olsens back! These kids are terrible,'" Stamos explained. When the actor was asked whether the twins knew about their temporary "firing", Stamos quipped: "They do now."
The Olsen twins appeared in numerous teen movies during the early 00s, however, have since stepped away from acting and embarked on careers as fashion designers.
As for Stamos, he eventually reprised his role as Jesse on the sitcom's revival, Fuller House. He was joined by the series' original cast members - including Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber, Scott Weinger, and the late Bob Saget. Lori Loughlin also appeared on the revival for the first four seasons.
The Olsens had been asked to join the reboot, something Stamos told radio DJ Howard Stern in 2016. "I did call, I talked to Mary-Kate and I explained kind of what the show was going to be, and told them I would love them to be on there and they decided not to, which I respect," he recalled, via People.
