After a recent photo blunder by Johnny Depp, fans have been taking to social media to make the same joke - and let's just say, we're all stifling our giggles right now.

Let me give you a bit of context to this one.

On March 10, Robert Downey Jr. clinched the victory for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Christopher Nolan's epic blockbuster Oppenheimer, marking his first-ever Oscars win.

Watch a clip of RDJ accepting his award below:

"I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order," Downey joked during his acceptance speech. "I’d like to thank my veterinarian - I meant wife - Susan Downey over there. She found me, a snarling rescue pet, and loved me back to life. That’s why I am here. Thank you.

"Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me," he added of the project. "[Director Christopher Nolan] knew it, [producer Emma Thomas] made sure she wrapped — surrounded me with one of the greatest cast and crews of all time.

"Emily, Cillian, Matt Damon... it was fantastic and I stand here before you a better man because of it," he added.

Downey secured the win over his fellow nominees which included Sterling K. Brown for American Fiction, Ryan Gosling for Barbie, Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things, and Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon.

Naturally, the star's celebrity friends congratulated him on the award and that's where Johnny Depp comes into it all.

The former Pirates of the Caribbean star took to Instagram the following day to congratulate his friend on his Oscar, but the photo he shared on his Stories had a lot of fans scratching their heads.

Why? Because it was an edited fan photo from a picture he wasn't even in... Yikes.

Fans wondered whether Depp had just gone onto Google and found the first picture of the pair or if he followed fan accounts dedicated to himself - especially after noticing Downey's "missing thumb" and wisps of Sarah Jessica Parker's hair - who'd been the person Downey Jr. had originally posed with - from the original image in the altered one.

Some took it one step further and absolutely ripped the actor to shreds on X, formerly Twitter.

"Following RDJ’s Oscar win, Johnny Depp has, embarrassingly, uploaded a photoshopped photo of himself with Robert Downey Jr. to his official Instagram... because he likes to pretend he has friends," wrote one user while another added: "Johnny Depp is so desperate for attention that he posted a photoshopped photo to appear by the side of #AcademyAwards winner Robert Downey Jr. He's such an embarrassment."

But perhaps the funniest joke of them all:

"Johnny Depp deleted a photo of him and Robert Downey Jr after realizing it was actually a photoshopped pic of Princess Kate," one wrote, while another added: "I see johnny depp went to the kate middleton school of editing."

Others joked: "not johnny depp and kate middleton having a fake photo off…" and: "Good god, have celebrities just discovered Photoshop?? First Kate Middleton now Johnny Depp."

Not KateGate, I'm screaming.

Word seemingly got around about the edited photo, so much so that Depp deleted the post and replaced it with two actual photos of the pair on the red carpet.

"Let’s try this again... congrats to my dear friend," Depp wrote in a caption placed below the two photos on Instagram.

While the two stars have never been in a film together, they have been friends for a long time, with both actors previously speaking highly of each other.
