Jonah Hill and his girlfriend Sarah Brady have shut down a troll's cruel sign that read the actor "ruined surfing".

The sign was an apparent reference to paparazzi images of the 21 Jump Street actor surfing in a black wetsuit back in February.

At the time, The Wolf of Wall Street actor said his childhood insecurities were "exacerbated by years of public mockery" about his body by social media, but that images like that no longer "phase" him.

"I'm 37 and finally love and accept myself," he wrote.

When he discovered the "Jonah Hill ruined surfing" sign at a beach in California, Hill wrote on his Instagram story on Tuesday, October 19, that he would never stop doing things that bring him joy.

What's more, his girlfriend Sarah, who is an environmental activist, also shared a picture of the cruel sign - along with a geo-tag of a surfing club on the same beach.

"Only kooks do this s***," she wrote. She added she was "proud" of Hill for getting into surfing "for the pure joy it brings".

"If you feel the need to rain on someone else's parade, ask yourself why and consider getting yourself a life," she added.

It comes as the actor last week asked his fans to refrain from commenting on his body, despite their good intentions.

"I know you mean well but I kindly ask that you not comment on my body," he wrote, adding: "Good or bad, I want to politely let you know it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good. Much respect."

This isn't the first time Hill has spoken out about the demeaning comments about his weight.

Earlier this year, he took to his Instagram to share a poignant post about finally being able to love himself following years of insecurities.

Alongside a screenshot of a mean-spirited news article that published his shirtless paparazzi photos, Hill wrote: "I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends.

"Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers. So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope.

"I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself. This isn’t a 'good for me' post. And it’s definitely not a 'feel bad for me post'. It’s for the the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love."
