Sparks flew between Laura Dern and Sam Neill in Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic blockbuster Jurassic Park.
But now - almost 30 years since the first film came out - Dern and Neill are reflecting that their onscreen romance might not have been entirely appropriate.
The pair starred as paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant and palaeobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler in the dinosaur flick that has sparked a six-film franchise.
Next month, Dern and Neill will be back on the big screen as they reprise their roles for the latest movie, Jurassic World Dominion. Ahead of its release on June 10, the two actors spoke with The Telegraph about their characters - and both were quick to comment on their 20-year age gap.
"I am 20 years older than Laura! Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady," said Neill, who was in his mid-40s when he first starred opposite the 23-year-old Dern.
He went on to explain how the realization of their inappropriate age difference only dawned on him when he read about it in a magazine.
"It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine and there was an article called 'Old geezers and gals'. People like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery acting with much younger people, and there I was, on the list," he said.
Dern agreed that their romance felt natural at the time, but that it was only with shifting "cultural awareness" that she realized there was anything odd about it.
"Well, it felt completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill," she said, adding: "And it was only now, when we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, that I was, like, 'Wow! We’re not the same age?'"
Now 74 and 55, Neill and Dern will star alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the third and final installation of the Jurassic World trilogy, which rebooted the original Jurassic Park movies.
And they're not the only cast members reprising their roles - fan favorite Jeff Goldblum will also be back on screen as the eccentric scientist Dr. Ian Malcolm.
