Family Ties star Justine Bateman has opened up about her commitment to aging naturally despite cruel comments from trolls about her "looking old".

The film and television industry can be notoriously harsh towards women once they start to get older, with intense focus being placed on every wrinkle and grey hair, while men don't seem to face the same scrutiny as they age.

While many succumb to the pressure and try different surgeries or 'tweakments' such as Botox and fillers to try and look the same as they did decades earlier, other stars are refusing to bow to the trolls are are choosing to embrace their natural beauty as they get older.

Bateman, 57, recently opened up about the cruel fixation on her appearance she'd stumbled upon, and why it only made her double down on aging naturally.

Speaking to 60 Minutes Australia earlier in the year, Bateman revealed the horrific way she discovered some people thought she was starting to look "old" when she was only in her very early 40s at the time.

The actress explained: "I needed to Google something to do a little research and remind myself of something that happened when I was famous.

"So, I put in my name, Googled my name ― Justine Bateman ― and then the autocomplete came up, which was 'looks old'.

"I was like, 'What?' And I looked at the pictures that they had as evidence, and I couldn’t see what they were talking about."

While the cruel searches may have got to some, she hit back by saying: "I just don’t give a s**t. I think I look rad. I think my face represents who I am. I like it."

Bateman, who wrote a book about beauty two years ago, admitted that she feels "sad" for the women who feel like they have to turn to injectables such as Botox and fillers to try and cling on to how they used to look due to societal pressures, as she believes they are "not enjoying life".

She added: "I feel sad they are distracted from the things that they’re meant to do in life, with this consuming idea that they’ve gotta fix their face before anything else can happen.

"I’m saying, forget about your face! That is what I’m saying. Get rid of the fear that is making you think that the fact that your face is wrinkled is going to X-out a bunch of opportunities for you."

Bateman is not the only high-profile star who has spoken about their decision to let nature run its course with how they age.

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis previously revealed that she had tried Botox in the past but wasn't happy with the way it made her look.

She explained to Today last year: " I did plastic surgery. I put Botox in my head. Does Botox make the big wrinkle go away? Yes. But then you look like a plastic figurine."

The actress also revealed that she warns her daughters off going down the cosmetic surgery route, telling them: "Don’t mess with your face."

While there's nothing wrong with plastic surgery to help with an existing insecurity, everyone's natural beauty is more than beautiful enough to begin with.
