Kate Bush has earned her first-ever Top 10 hit in the US with 'Running Up That Hill' - 37 years after it was released.

The viral resurgence of Bush’s 1985 Hounds of Love single 'Running Up That Hill' is thanks to the first part of the latest season Stranger Things which has recently been released on Netflix.

The decades-old track is featured on the show as a favorite song of character Max Mayfield - played by Sadie Sink.

The song has just landed at number 8 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, marking it as the first time one of the 63-year-old English singer-songwriter's songs has landed in the top 10 on the US singles chart.

When it was first released in the mid-80s, 'Running Up That Hill' reached number 30 in the US - her highest spot in the chart until now.

In a rare statement on her website, Bush thanked fans of the show for its renewed success, saying: "You might've heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of 'Stranger Things' has recently been released on Netflix.

"It features the song, 'Running Up That Hill' which is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show - I love it too! Because of this, 'Running Up That Hill' is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at No 8. It's all really exciting!"

"Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song. I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July," she concluded.

As reported by NME, Bush had rarely given permission for her tracks to be used in film and TV in the past and was reportedly approached by the Stranger Things team for permission to feature the song on the show. The singer approved because she is a fan of the series.

Her publisher Wendy Crowley recently said, according to NME: "Kate Bush is selective when it comes to licensing her music and because of that, we made sure to get script pages and footage for her to review so she could see exactly how the song would be used."

The song is more successful than ever before and is currently the second-most played track globally on Spotify and Apple Music. It is also charting well in the UK, with it currently reaching number 2 on the midweek sales update on Sunday.

The first part of Stranger Things part 4 has been released. The second installment of episodes is set to debut on Netflix on July 1.
