Kelly Dodd and Rick Leventhal slammed for ‘offensive’ Alec Baldwin Halloween costume
Real Housewives of Orange County star Kelly Dodd and her husband Rick Leventhal were slammed online for their choice of Halloween costumes.
The former Fox News correspondent, 61 dressed up as Alec Baldwin in a cowboy outfit on the set of Rust, holding up a prop gun following the tragic fatal shooting on set.
The controversial costume comes just days after the actor accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the film's set, and injured the film's director Joel Souza.
Meanwhile, wife Kelly, 46, who previously announced that she is 30% Native American, dressed as an Indian stereotype.
Rick shared a photo of the couple in costume on Instagram, with the caption: "Kelly celebrated her Native American heritage & I celebrated the great American film actor Alec Baldwin."
Outraged social media users rushed to Twitter to slam the tone-deaf outfits, with many labeling it "offensive".
"These two are classless morons. That caption is just trash. A woman died and he chose to turn it into a costume. #RHOC," wrote on critic.
Another tweeted: "These two are disgusting #rhoc."
While a third added: "Kelly Dodd’s only personality trait at this point is doing things for “shock value” or to cause outrage. It’s pretty sad."
"Kelly Dodd and Rick Leventhal are disgusting and obviously desperate for press," another added.
As the outcry grew, Rick defended his costume in a statement to Page Six, revealing that he is no fan of the Beetlejuice star.
"In no way was I trying to offend anyone, except Alec Baldwin. He's a jerk and deserves all the heat he’s getting."
Rick told the paper he decided to be Alec at the last minute. Meanwhile, his reality star wife was busy defending her own costume.
She told Page Six: "People are way too sensitive, I embrace my Native American heritage. I think the fashion is beautiful, and this was a tribute and celebration."
The post came just days after Baldwin unintentionally discharged a prop gun on the set of Western movie Rust in Santa Fe, New Mexico, injuring the director, and killing cinematographer Halyna.
At the time that Hutchins, a married mother-of-one, was accidentally killed, Baldwin was rehearsing for a scene that entailed pointing the prop gun at the camera before pulling the trigger, Souza revealed in an affidavit on October 24.
The affidavit read: "Joel stated that they had Alec sitting in a pew in a church building setting, and he was practicing a cross draw. Joel said he was looking over the shoulder of [Hutchins] when he heard what sounded like a whip and then a loud pop."
