Kanye West must have been foreshadowing future events when he rapped "I miss the old Kanye" in his 2016 song 'I Love Kanye'.
In fact, in the seven years since the release of the album the song appeared on, The Life of Pablo, the musician now known simply as Ye has gone through some significant life changes and interesting phases.
Most notable was his decision to express his support for former POTUS Donald Trump, with the 'Gold Digger' rapper telling the Wall Street Journal in 2020 that he was sick of facing criticism for wearing a Make America Great Again hat.
"It reminded me of how I felt as a Black guy before I was famous, when I would walk in a restaurant and people would look at you like you were going to steal something,. 'This is your place, Ye, don't talk about apparel. This is your place, Ye, you're Black, so you're a Democrat,'" he said.
Following this, the artist was involved in an acrimonious divorce from his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, with whom he shares four children - North, ten, Saint, seven, Chicago, five, and Psalm, four.
The reality TV star reportedly became increasingly frustrated with Ye's random Twitter tirades, with the couple ending up living separately in 2016 as the Yeezy designer began treatment for mental health, People detailed.
By February 2021, however, Kim had filed for divorce, which was eventually finalized in November 2022, after eight years of marriage.
While many of the details of their relationship breakdown have been kept private, there has been some discussion on Kim's reality TV show, The Kardashians.
Earlier in this latest season, which has premiered on Hulu and Disney+, the mother-of-four explained that she's shied away from speaking publicly about the conflict between her and Ye because she wants to protect her children. Then, in a recent interview with Vogue Italia, she told the outlet: "If it's something concerning my kids' dad and I'm upset, I try not to show as much emotion."
She added: "I have to be ready to explain why I'm upset and it might not be appropriate for them to know. There's nothing worse than 'You'll understand when you're older.' I don't want to be that person."
Now, in a teaser for next week's episode of The Kardashians, Kim appears to be emotionally discussing her relationship with ex-husband Ye to her sister Khloé Kardashian. In the short clip, Kim bursts into tears and admits she's "not okay", before alluding to her former husband's change in behavior as their marriage ended.
Check out the clip:"It's so different than the person that I married. That's who I loved, and that's who I remember. I'll do anything to get that person back," she said.
In the past few years, Ye's behavior has become increasingly erratic, especially as he chose to publicly hit out at his former wife's family and parenting style.
His antics eventually resulted in him being banned on Twitter and publicly 'canceled' after he sported a White Lives Matter t-shirt during Paris Fashion Week.
