Over the weekend, Kim Kardashian wowed crowds at the Met Gala by transforming into Marilyn Monroe.
The reality star bleached her hair and dropped 16 pounds so she could squeeze into the exact same dress which Marilyn famously wore to sing 'Happy Birthday' to John F. Kennedy in 1962.
While the iconic dress had to be returned before the night was even through (Kim had to take it off after a brief walk up the red carpet) there is one piece of Marilyn that she'll get to keep forever.
After loaning her the gown, Ripley's Believe It Or Not! museum gifted Kim with a lock of Marilyn's hair, which has been preserved in a jar.
The museum captured the moment Kim received the bizarre piece of American History in a video they posted to their Instagram.
"This is either really cool or a little strange but that's who you're doing business with," museum staff warned her as she unwrapped the jar.
Check out the moment in the video below:But they needn't have worried, as she was thrilled with the gesture. "I"m literally going to do some crazy voodoo s*** and channel her," Kim joked, adding: "This is so special to me. Thank you so much."
"This so cool. This is sleeping with me every night... sorry babe," she said, referring to boyfriend Pete Davidson who was supposedly watching off-camera.
The museum team also gave fans an exclusive look inside Kim's Met Gala dressing room, which they filled with Marilyn Monroe memorabilia - including her clothes and makeup case - to help her get into character.
Because the dress is such an important piece of history (the most expensive gown ever sold at auction for $4.8 million) it wasn't allowed to be altered for the Gala. That meant that Kim had to put herself on a strict diet if she wanted to fit into it.
Watch Kim trying on the iconic dress:"I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein," she told Vogue, adding: "I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict."
Ultimately, the star shed 16 pounds in just three weeks.
