Kim Kardashian called on lawmakers to impose stricter gun control measures by increasing the legal age to purchase firearms after the Texas school shooting.
On Tuesday (May 24), a gunman opened fire in Robb Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, murdering 19 children and two teachers in the devastating attack.
The reality TV star wrote a long thread on Twitter and Instagram, referencing an essay she posted on her blog five years ago about gun control: "Five years ago, almost to the day, I wrote an essay for my blog about my thoughts on gun control in honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
"I asked, 'Is it more important to protect the second amendment than to protect our own children?' Then, on Tuesday, 19 children were murdered by an 18-year-old – and I find myself heartbroken, disgusted, and furious about how little has been done by lawmakers to enact gun laws that protect our children," she said.

"The current laws in our country around gun control are not protecting our children. We have to push lawmakers to enact laws that are fitting in today’s world," she said.
The 41-year-old entrepreneur is also an advocate of prison reform and is studying to become a lawyer. She said that semi-automatic weapons, and assault weapons - which she described as "weapons of war" - should be banned.
She also exclaimed that such violent weapons have one purpose: "They are sophisticated weapons, designed to kill."
Per NBC News, the SKIMS founder also wrote that she believes the legal age to purchase weapons should be raised. She acknowledged that racism, mental health, hatred, and other issues were factors in mass shootings and gun violence, however, she said, more could be done to ease some of those problems.
She stated that lawmakers should make changes by adjusting access to firearms: "There are of course people over 21 who buy guns to cause harm, and other mass shootings in recent years have been carried out by people over 21, but if we increase [the] legal age to purchase, coupled with a ban on assault weapons, we can without a doubt reduce the number of senseless tragedies and save children’s lives."
Kardashian voiced that the country can't wait any longer for change: "We can’t accept it," she wrote. "We can’t have another five years go by without effective, impactful laws put in place to protect our kids. We are parents, we are mothers, we are begging and pleading for action."
