Diners popping to their local Waffle House in Florence, Alabama, got a bit of a surprise in July when they discovered their server was none other than singer Lana Del Rey - and she's finally explained exactly why she was moonlighting as a waitress.
The singer, 38, stunned diners after she was seen wearing a Waffle House shirt with her own name tag on it as she hopped behind the counter to help fulfill orders.
She also happily posed with fans who wanted photos - still rocking the uniform - as her followers flooded social media to express their disbelief.
Now, Lana has revealed exactly what was going on that led to her taking on a role in the hospitality industry.
The 'Summertime Sadness' star opened up about how the viral moment came to be, telling the Hollywood Reporter that she and her siblings had been frequenting the restaurant regularly when she was offered the chance of a job.
She explained: "We were on our third hour [that day], and the servers asked, 'Do you guys want shirts?' Hell yeah! We were thrilled."
Of course, with the shirt needs to come a name tag and the staff made Lana one of her own and even set her to work fulfilling orders.
The superstar appeared to love getting back to basics, as she revealed: "This guy, a regular, comes in every day and orders two things, so they were like, 'Just go get it for him!'
"I brought him a Coke. No ice. And an empty cup, for dip," with 'dip' referring to chewing tobacco.
The restaurant's manager shared a 10-second clip of Lana working behind the counter online, which soon went viral and had fans questioning whether she might be filming a music video that would facilitate the need for her to dress up in the Waffle House uniform.
Sadly, there's no music video to come from it - yet, at least - and the singer didn't even realize anyone had filmed her on the day, when she and her siblings chose to hang out in the diner to spend time together.
While bumping into actual Lana Del Rey in a chain restaurant like Waffle House might seem like the stuff of fanfiction, apparently, it's more possible than one might think.
The publication reports singer-songwriter Jack Antonoff - who produced three of her albums - as summing Lana up the most succinctly, as he stated: "The secret to Lana is that she’s exactly who she is.
“She’s really one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists who also likes to roll around in her truck and drink gas-station coffee. That can disarm people, but there’s no bit."

As well as her time behind the counter at Waffle House, Lana was also seen posing for photos with fans at a local nail salon and a Texas Roadhouse restaurant in the area, proving that she really does like the normal things in life.
Lana made light of the attention surrounding her popping up in the most innocuous locations, joking to the Hollywood Reporter: "I wish my album had gone as viral.
"I woke up to, like, 10,000 texts the next morning — some from folks I had not heard from for 10 years. 'Saw your picture at the Waffle House!' (Laughing.) I was like, 'Did you hear the new album?'"
