Lewis Capaldi has given a candid interview where he admitted to spending most of the time "hating himself" while crafting songs.

The 26-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter - known for his emotive melodies and honest lyrics - appeared on the latest episode of YouTube's First We Feast's popular talk show, Hot Ones.

The show sees host Sean Evans interview celebrities while they eat chicken wings covered in increasingly spicy hot sauce that hits 641,000 on the Scoville level.

During his appearance, Capaldi - who was in tears from the flamed wings - revealed to the interviewer that spends "most of the time hating myself" when writing songs, explaining that it's his creative process.

The hitmaker then went on to joke: "I subject the general public to the pain of listening to music, so I feel like I should have to suffer as well."

Struggling with the heat of the wings, he swallowed lemonade and milk before being questioned on what advice he would give to anyone who wanted to achieve success within the music industry.

He responded: "Right, you just don't know anything. You learn you don't know anything, and nobody has the answers. You don't know what a hit is - every time I think a song is a smash hit, it's a failure. Labels know nothing, you know nothing."

The interview comes after the 'Before You Go' singer endured a challenging performance as he openly grappled with the effects of Tourette's Syndrome - a condition of the nervous system - at Glastonbury festival on June 24.

Fans were left emotional after the singer struggled to perform parts of his hit track, 'Someone You Loved' so the adoring crowd took over, and started singing the song for him. At times, the camera caught an emotional Capaldi watching on as the thousands of concertgoers supported him.

Shortly after the show, the Brit award winner announced on Instagram that he would stop touring for the "foreseeable future" as he deals with the impact of living with Tourette's.

In a statement on Instagram, he told fans: "I used to be able to enjoy every second of a show like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come."

Capaldi apologized to fans who had planned to see him perform this year on a tour through Europe, Australia, east Asia, the UK, and the Middle East.

"I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve," he wrote. "Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can."

We wish him all the best!
