Lily Allen has explained her less-than-positive feelings towards Beyoncé’s cover of Dolly Parton’s classic song, 'Jolene'.

Beyoncé recently released her first country album Cowboy Carter and the response has been varied to say the least.

Her cover of the 1973 hit song 'Jolene' sparked a debate as some fans raved about Bey's critics slated.

As it turns out, 'Smile' singer Lily Allen isn't keen on the song and R&B musician's venture into country music in general.

Sharing her views on the Miss Me? podcast she co-hosts alongside her friend and TV personality Miquita Oliver, the 38-year-old mom said: “It’s very weird that you’d cover the most successful songs in that genre,” while confessing she’d only heard some of the songs on the album.

Oliver agreed, adding: “I don’t think the ‘Jolene’ one is good... I feel like Beyoncé could’ve done a bit more with it or maybe picked something that was a little less bait to cover.”

Allen continued: “Yeah, I just feel like it’s quite an interesting thing to do when you’re like trying to tackle a new genre and you just choose the biggest song in that genre to cover.”

Originally released in 1973, 'Jolene' was written about a red-haired bank clerk who was flirtatious with her then new husband, Carl Dean, not long after they tied the knot.

In any case, Allen continued, referring to Azealia Banks' social media comments about Beyoncé in which she slated her husband as unattractive.

“I read a comment from Azealia Banks that said, ‘Stop looking at Jay Z as if anyone wants to f*** him.’” she said, while admitting she doesn’t go for looks and could have possibly gone for him as she is attracted to “power”.

When Oliver remarked how “great” Beyoncé looks in her forties, Allen suggested she was “getting some help” in that regard.

“She hasn’t had any work done, if that’s what you’re implying,” Oliver argued.

“I didn’t say that, I’m saying she’s got a great team of stylists, hair people, you know, she works out a lot. She’s got access to the best trainers in the world,” Allen replied.

Oliver responded: “She just has good genes.”
