Machine Gun Kelly is no stranger to red carpet controversy.

In the past, the rapper has prompted criticism for heavy petting and PDA with his fiancée Megan Fox.

However, this week MGK has provoked outraged reactions all by himself with one very daring choice of accessory.

The 32-year-old artist - real name Colson Baker - appeared at the Tribeca Film Festival for the premiere of his latest film, Taurus, in a striking ensemble. As well as a white sequin suit, he sported pink hair and matching sneakers.

Most noticeable of all though was his earring, which was made out of a "blood-filled" syringe and featured a red jewel dangling from the bottom like a droplet of blood.

Unsurprisingly, MGK was accompanied by Fox, who donned a strapless crimson latex dress for the occasion. The two were as affectionate as ever, sharing kisses on the red carpet as they posed for cameras.

However, it was the rapper's earring that provoked outrage, as many people took to social media to complain that a bloody syringe was not an appropriate message to send young fans.

"And this is what our kids look up to! Bring back normal for peats sake," one person commented, while another agreed, writing: "When you have all these people that look up to you that's not a good way to be a leader."

Others complained that the bloody syringe's association with drug addiction made it an inappropriate choice of jewelry.

"With drug overdoses and deaths at the highest numbers they have ever been ... kind of a disgusting 'fashion' statement/message in my opinion," one person wrote, adding: "I am really sick to my stomach looking at this!!! Honestly, this is just NOT okay!!! Drug Addiction Matters!!!!!"

Another echoed their sentiment, commenting: "People are dying of drugs and overdoses. Wrong message especially for the young fan crowd he has. I feel sorry and a lot of pain for every parent losing their child to drugs. Hopefully, his career comes to an end sending these wrong signals!"

Meanwhile, this isn't the first time MGK and Fox have publicly incorporated blood into their relationship.

Earlier this year, the pair formalized their engagement by taking a sip of each other's blood, and the rapper has been open about wearing his lover's blood around his neck.
