A man on TikTok is challenging horror movie buffs to see if they can get through a terrifying Netflix movie without "freaking out".
Chad - known by his TikTok handle as @moviesandbuff - has taken to the short-form video-sharing platform to encourage users to watch a 2019 movie that he describes as a "hidden gem."
In his TikTok, Chad says: "I don't give a f**k how hard or desensitized you are there's no f**king way you're getting through this whole movie and not f**king freaking out."
The film in question? I See You, a mystery thriller flick starring Helen Hunt, Jon Tenney, and Judah Lewis. Directed by Adam Randall, it follows the story of a small-town detective and his family as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of a 12-year-old boy.
In the video, Chad urges viewers to watch one particular scene, saying: "If you don't trust me, just go to scene 37 minutes in; let me know what you think. This is not a horror, it's a thriller!"
The flick has been well-received by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, having been given a pretty good 75% critic score.
The Los Angeles Times said that the movie "deserves attention", stating: "Director Adam Randall and screenwriter Devon Graye have delivered the kind of sly nail-biter that could use a little more open space on the calendar to build up buzz so it can get noticed by fans of imaginative, original horror."
The Hollywood Reporter said: "A twist-heavy crime thriller spiced with horror and noir elements, I See You is such a finely crafted exercise in slow-burn suspense that its loopy plot contortions only seem absurd in retrospect."
Though, Chad's TikTok followers didn't necessarily agree with the fact that the movie was worth a freak out. "It was...meh. Not terrible but I'd never recommend it," one person commented.
Someone else added: "The only scary thing that happened in this scene is that he's playing overwatch on a macbook using the trackpad."
While another user chimed in by saying that the movie was definitely not worth a freak-out, but that it was at least decent. "I watched it before I saw this. Didn't freak out at all and figured out what was going on and why about half way through. Decent movie though," they wrote.
"It wasn't hard to watch or hard to finish. And I have no clue what happened at 37 minutes that was so traumatic," another user commented, wondering why Chad had urged viewers to watch the movie at 37 minutes in.
